The Director of Facility Medicine is responsible for the oversight of medicine and surgery at both the clinic and shelter medicine departments within the facility, ensuring established processes and protocols are followed to deliver high-quality medicine to the animals in our care.
Responsibilities:
Perform the duties and responsibilities of a staff veterinarian, including diagnosing and treating ill and injured animals, prescribing medication, and performing surgeries.
Schedule the DVMs and consult with them on complicated medical and surgical cases, providing final authority on difficult medical decisions.
Provide direction to and training of the DVMs, veterinary techs, and animal care technicians. Provide evaluations of the veterinary staff.
Manage the hiring, training, and performance management processes for all veterinarians within the facility.
Assist in the handling of medical complaints and concerns from clients.
Oversee the ordering and use of controlled substances, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
Oversee quality control of both clinic and shelter medicine, ensuring safety, disease control, and OSHA standards/protocols are followed.
Ensure Veterinary Practice Act standards are followed.
Ensure budgetary goals are met.
Promote Michigan Humane programs and general goodwill among clients and staff, attending special fundraising and adoption events as appropriate.
Qualifications:
A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, with continuing education
Must be licensed by the State of Michigan. Must hold or be eligible to hold a State controlled substance license, a DEA license, and USDA accreditation
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a veterinary clinic setting
Previous management/supervisory experience would be very helpful
Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
