The NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites qualified candidates to apply for our Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies position.
The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies must possess the interpersonal skills and a leadership vision that will advance the impact and reputation of research at the College of Veterinary Medicine nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of achievement in research.
Candidates must have academic leadership and administrative experience, strong communication skills, a record of collegial and productive interactions with faculty, staff and students, enthusiasm for working with highly interdisciplinary faculty across diverse research interests, and a strong desire to establish collaborations both within the university and with the private and public sectors. A partial list of responsibilities include:
- Advocate for clinical, translational, basic, and educational research in biomedical science and comparative medicine.
- Create a collaborative culture and build consensus among diverse faculty to help link clinical and basic science research to enhance translational innovations.
- Develop and support relationships and initiatives that drive interdisciplinary collaborations across our university and with universities and others across the Research Triangle and the state.
- Develop and support initiatives that increase diversity, equity, and inclusion across our research enterprise.
- Provide oversight and support of the Director of the Comparative Biomedical Sciences graduate program.
- Provide oversight and support of our undergraduate, graduate, and veterinary student research programs, as well as professional development opportunities for our postdoctoral fellows and research staff.
- Develop new processes that facilitate faculty research success.
- Provide budgetary and management oversight and support of the college’s Research Office, Laboratory Animal Resources, the Central Procedures Laboratory, and college equipment and research cores.
- Work with college leadership to develop college vision and to plan and implement strategic initiatives.
- Maintain an active research program as a means for understanding those rewards and challenges.
Requires a Ph.D. or equivalent (D.V.M./Ph.D. preferred). Must be tenurable in an academic setting and at or approaching full Professor rank. Must have academic leadership and supervisory experience. Must have a record of excellence as an extramurally funded researcher.
