Hours: 40 Variable hours/week, including evenings and weekends; will be required to work during shelter emergencies and disaster response.
Other: Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Will be required to complete a “Willingness to Work” Acknowledgement with application. Selected candidate must take the pre-exposure rabies treatment.
THIS IS AN AT-WILL POSITION.
Oversees the work of the clinic veterinarians at the Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control Veterinary Services section. Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating complex activities and operations in veterinary medicine in accordance with local, state and federal statutes and regulations. Manages the clinic veterinarians and ensures the highest quality of veterinary care, staff engagement and maximum productivity of the veterinary medical team. Supervises employees with assigned responsibilities in high volume spay/neuter, medical assessments, forensic investigations and shelter management. Participates in conferences, prepares written reports and observes results of veterinary services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD); minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the practice of veterinarian services.
Necessary Special Requirements: Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Florida and certified by the Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine. Must be able to obtain a Drug Enforcement Administration License within 60 days of hire.
PREFERENCE FOR: Five years of experience in the practice of shelter medicine; previous employment in a county animal care facility or humane society facility performing high-volume spay/neuter surgeries; experience implementing One Health within an animal facility; experience grant writing.
