Southern NH Small Animal Veterinary Position (FT/PT)
Amherst Animal Hospital
Location: Amherst, New Hampshire
Type: Full Time
Required Education: DVM or equivalent
Amherst Animal Hospital, located in the historic and affluent town of Amherst, NH, is seeking an associate veterinarian to join our 4 doctor small animal practice. Our veterinary hospital has been successful for over 40 years by providing exceptional care for our patients and fostering strong relationships with our clients based on trust and respect. Our team's best qualities are honesty, responsibility, and compassion. We have always been independently owned and operated so our veterinarians are able to practice quality medicine in a cooperative and supportive environment.
Our facility contains five examination rooms, two complete surgical suites, ten wards for hospitalization and isolation of patients, and an apartment above for our treatment technician. Our instrumentation includes an Eklin DR digital radiography system, Seimens ultrasound, and a comprehensive in-house chemistry laboratory with Heska and Idexx analyzers. The majority of urine and cytology samples are evaluated in-house. Our hospital regularly evaluates and integrates new therapeutics, diagnostics, and technology to enhance the level of patient care and client service.
Staff veterinarians perform most surgeries and we have many specialty hospitals in our region for complex cases. Our hospital utilizes an answering service when we are closed. After hours, clients have the opportunity to speak with a veterinarian by phone. Our staff doctors share this on-call phone duty and on average, the doctors receive 0-1 phone messages per on-call shift. All pets needing emergency care when our hospital is closed are referred to a local emergency clinic.
This opportunity is for a full or part-time veterinarian who possesses exemplary medical and surgical skills, typically acquired from an internship or through advanced private practice. We work as a team – our doctors support one another; we share cases regularly and consult with each other throughout the workday. Mentoring is part of our practice and we frequently provide internships for veterinary students and veterinary technicians from local programs.
The successful candidate will enjoy the challenges of a busy practice, participate actively in our twice-daily hospital rounds and work cooperatively with all staff members to provide the high level of care that is our hospital’s standard. A veterinarian with a positive outlook, a team player that fits with our hospital’s ethical standards, and a methodical, compassionate communicator will be a wonderful addition to our practice.
Our employees are not just workers, they are family. We provide comprehensive benefits to full-time employees so that our employees do not have to worry about health care or in the event of an injury when not working. We contribute to everyone’s 401(K) retirement account, even if they can’t. Our primary goal during this pandemic has been to keep our employees and clients safe from infection. To this end, we require all new employees to be vaccinated for COVID 19 (also tetanus and rabies). As we have cautiously re-opened this summer, we are continuing thorough disinfecting regiments and require all clients entering the hospital to be masked.
Our team works hard, enjoys learning every day, and uses humor to help balance the rigors of general practice. Please don’t apply if you can’t take a joke. Don’t apply if you only like animals (spoiler alert – in veterinary practice, 60% of your time is relating to owners). Don’t apply if you want an easy job or you want to work at a corporate practice. Please DO apply if you want to hone your diagnostic skills, learn new surgical techniques, experience working up cases where the lessons you learn will stay with you forever, and work with an awesome group of dedicated doctors, techs, receptionists, ward techs, and students!
A license to practice veterinary medicine in the United States.
A valid NH veterinary license will be required at the time of hire, or at the soonest opportunity thereafter.
A strong interest in surgery is desired. Ultrasound experience would be great, too!
As the position requires evening and weekend responsibilities, applicants should reside within 40 minutes of the practice for the commute to be feasible, especially in the winter.
